MASSAGE
What kind of massage are you looking for?
All treatments are a fusion of Swedish (modern massage technique training), Tui na (Chinese massage & acupressure), reflexology and guided breathing . If desired, the session will begin with a brief yet powerful practice of guided deep breathing to bring the mind into the present and awaken your spirit to consciously observe the body and its sensations. This helps facilitate healing by instructing our brain and nervous system to recognize areas in the body that require healing. Did you know the neuro-pathways that the brain uses to detect pain are the same as those used to receive pleasurable touch? A great example of this is when you bang your knee, you soothe the pain by holding your knee. This physiological phenomena is why hand-on healing, like massage, can be SO effective for relieving pain. What about those "pain in the neck" people in your life or "pain in the butt" situations we all must navigate? Have you ever felt intense pain, gone for a deep massage, felt like you were beaten by a steam-roller just for the pain to return a few days later? Pain is not always caused by physical body injury and torturous deep-tissue massage is often not indicated, or effective for relieving intense pain . Often times, the gentle approach of conscious awareness being brought to the area through massage, guided meditation, and breathing techniques is the most effective treatment. Our brains are wired to communicate with our body and vice versa. It is our sense organs that are designed to help us navigate through life and our outer environment. The constant input of information from the sense organs to the processing centres in the brain requires energy. In meditation, the idea is to focus the attention inward to the "inner environment". By receiving sensations invoked by therapeutic massage, while in this entirely conscious state of presence, an embodied experience of healing can occur. By observing how the breath moves through the body much wisdom can be found. In shamanic healing practice, animals and their natures can be called upon for their teachings, or "medicines". If an animal is prevalent in your journey, study it. Learn about how it develops its survival skills, both inherent and acquired, how it hunts, lives and plays. We are one of millions of species on the planet and animals can teach us the wisdom in our primal, instinctual desires.
To help determine what kind of treatment is best suited to your needs, try selecting a type of animal medicine for your healing treatment.
BEAR - Like a warm bear-hug, this treatment involves deep mediation and allows the psyche to enter into a hibernation state where deep healing can occur. Like a mama bear guards her young, you can call on bear medicine to nourish your soul when you need to feel protection, fierce love and re-evaluate your energetic boundaries. Bear medicine can also be called on to give persevering strength when re-emerging the world after a long retreat or period of withdrawal. Just as Bears must leave the den, weak and in need of food, we must continue on with our journey after periods of deep rest. Meditations are focused on nourishing the inner child within, acknowledging fear and building courage to face obstacles that may be hindering spiritual growth.
DEER - Deer medicine is the gentle, soft comfort of a soft blanket. This treatment is nourishment for the soul that feels depleted and disconnected from the unconditional love that Spirit brings. Deer reminds us we are enough, we are loved and shows us how to move through life with a feeling of grace and beauty. Healing energy work, massage and guided meditation focuses on balancing on the root and heart chakras to reconnect to the Self. It is our birthright to be joyful, blissful and expandable and deer medicine reminds us we are loved unconditionally.
BUFFALO - A gentle yet ardent animal, the buffalo teaches us the value of our work. We output energy with tenacity and discipline to create the life we want and over time, and observe that change happens over time. Buffalo shows us that the ardent outflow of energy has brought a bounty and it is time to allow abundance to flow into our lives. Often when our nervous system is so used to go-go-go, we can struggle with slowing down to enjoy the fruits of our labour. Buffalo medicine teaches us to receive this abundance, with pride, and to allow yourself to nourish and re-energize our systems. When we work so hard to create the life we want, both within ourselves and in our relationships with others, Buffalo medicine is important in the receiving love aspect of life and love. This is a great treatment for self-proclaimed "A-types" and "achievers" as well as care-givers of all ages. Let love in!
EAGLE - Birds are blessed with the ability to soar above and have a broad perspective on life below. Eagle medicine offers the gift of sight and trajectory for the path ahead. Our position and momentum in growth can be clearly seen and we can then direct our energy consciously in the direction we want to go. This treatment is naturally energizing to the soul. Just as our hunger drives us to food, clarity clears the path towards our goal. Eagle teaches us that our soul hunger is valid, worthy and capable of capturing our prey. This treatment is particularly powerful for balancing eating habits and emotions. Eagle medicine therapy includes meditation on the power centres, bringing awareness to how energy is acquired and spent, and connecting the higher self (clarity and vision) with the lower self (action).
